Suicide Squad Movie's Impressive Achievement

Just learned about the movie Suicide Squad's impressive achievement from a post on ComicMix my the creator of the Squad, John Ostrander. You can about it HERE.

That's right, Suicide Squad has fared better than all those Marvel movies. Not bad for a comic book property many didn't know about until Comic-Con last year. Heck, not bad for movie coming off the heels Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, which is arguably one of the more panned movies of the summer. I admit it beat my expectations. Didn't expect Suicide Squad to still be in theaters let alone gross more than many of the Marvel properties.

A part of me is glad in that as kid who grew up toward the tail-end of the Super Friends/Super Powers cartoon-line, Suicide Squad's success helps ensure that the Justice League and other DCCU films are made. Heck, another Suicide Squad film is more likely now. As much as I love the Marvel movies, the superhero genre needs DC characters to have commercially viable films to further nurture the genre.

Since such an unknown property attracted so much box office does that mean the superhero/comic book genre is now firmly established? That it's achieved the status that the Western did so many years ago? Super-heroes and comic book-based films are now de facto genre of Hollywood like Western, Action, and Rom-com flick? I'd like to think so. On the other hand I hope it's not the peak. After all, people disliked the film because of certain tropes.

Oh well, kudos Suicide Squad for its noteworthy achievement!
